EU opens consultation on e-invoicing rules revision

The European Commission ran a public consultation on revising the EU’s eInvoicing Directive. Businesses could submit feedback via questionnaire until June 10, 2026, to help shape future legislation on interoperability, compliance costs, and digital trade barriers.
The European Commission consulted businesses on changes to EU e-invoicing rules. The consultation opened on March 18, 2026 and closed on June 10, 2026.
The consultation aims to improve interoperability across member states. It also seeks to reduce administrative burden and support digital trade throughout the EU.
Businesses were invited to share their experience with e-invoicing. The Commission wants to understand costs, benefits, and challenges. Feedback will also cover expected impacts of future rule changes.
The consultation questionnaire was available in English through the Commission’s Have Your Say portal. National bodies such as Denmark’s Nemhandel relayed the invitation to their business communities.
According to Nemhandel, this feedback will inform the next phase of EU legislation on e-invoicing.
