Comarch director argues e-invoicing must become a data strategy, not just compliance

Bartłomiej Wójtowicz, Comarch's E-Invoicing Consulting Director, argues in the European Business Review that treating e-invoicing as a localized IT problem wastes the chance to build global financial visibility and data quality.

Comarch’s Bartłomiej Wójtowicz has published an article in the European Business Review arguing that e-invoicing mandates should be treated as a data strategy, not just a compliance checkbox. He warns that even small data errors can cascade into operational problems and that businesses should use regulatory pressure to build unified global cash-flow visibility.

Bartłomiej Wójtowicz, E-Invoicing Consulting Director at Comarch, has published an article in the European Business Review arguing that e-invoicing mandates represent a missed opportunity when treated as a localized IT problem.

Wójtowicz contends that regulatory pressure from Europe to Asia is blurring the line between compliance and competitive advantage. Rather than deploying a simple connector to check a compliance box, he argues, businesses should use e-invoicing to transform fragmented data silos into a unified view of global cash flow.

Data integrity as a cascading risk

Wójtowicz highlights what he calls the “butterfly effect” of data integrity. Even a 1% error rate in invoicing data can cascade into significant operational bottlenecks. He recommends that CFOs treat e-invoicing as a data cleansing project, not merely as a regulatory filing requirement.

From defensive to proactive

The article argues for a shift from a defensive compliance posture to a proactive strategy. Wójtowicz describes this as unlocking true hyper-automation: eliminating errors at the source to achieve fully touchless processing. This approach, he suggests, turns regulatory compliance into a foundation for global financial orchestration.

Comarch has worked with global companies including Agfa, Lidl, Leroy Merlin, BIC, and Carrefour on e-invoicing implementation. The company is also certified as an e-invoicing provider in Slovakia.
